Located in the Savoy hotel is restaurant 1890 by Gordon Ramsay. The name comes from the date when Escoffier first started working at the Savoy and the dishes are modern tributes to the recipes that he made back then.

1&2) Truffle bomb, frogs legs, smoked haddock and hazelnut ice cream

3) Tortellino with lobster and lobster bisque

4) This one was a pleasantly strange dish. Tomato consome formed in the shape of a tomato

5) Just some great bread, we had 3 loafs of these

6)Turbot with burre blanc and various sea vegetables (samphire, finger limes etc)

7) Lamb cutlet with a courgette ratatouille flower, lamb shoulder underneath

8) 24 month aged comte with oatcakes, candied walnuts and pickled grapes

9) Kir pallette cleanser with blackcurrent sorbet

10) Peach Melba, morden version of the classic Escoffier dessert. Beautiful presentation which was lovely and creamy

11) Pettit fours were vanilla Madeleines with vanilla chantilly, lime curd and strawberry (compote?)

We went for the discovery wine pairing (£100). Nothing special but still pretty nice wines on there. Mostly new world so if you're into that then it's a good choice.

All in all was a standard, good 1 star experience. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. I liked how they are trying to incorporate a modern approach to the traditional dishes whilst maintaining elements of classic French cuisine. Especially loved the canapes and lamb course.

    Thank you for this. Atmosphere looks great and we were thinking of doing New Year’s Eve there (not sure they do anything or how hard it would be to get a rez). We’ll be traveling from Dallas for our anniversary and wanted a special dinner for NYE.

    I hate the plate with the tiny holes! I wouldn’t have touched that dish and would have sent it back!
