Chengdu Bistro (2211 W. North Avenue)

I knew when we walked in here and saw an older woman in Skechers standing on a step stool and rolling out dumplings that we were going to be in for a great meal.

Pic 1 is the Yibin Flaming Noodle, which I would describe as a spicer version of Dan Dan noodles. Extremely flavorful, in the truest sense of extreme – borderline psychedelic levels of málà. Take advantage of the BYOB policy if you want to order these (and you should).

Pic 2 is shrimp and pork dumplings. We got them steamed, but you have the option of getting them boiled or pan-fried as well. They come eight to an order, but we couldn’t wait to try them. Great texture on the skin, and the filling was very moist. No dipping sauce required.

Pic 3 is the dry chili chicken, which is one of my favorite dishes to order anywhere, and theirs didn’t disappoint. The chicken was cut smaller than some other places I’ve had it, so you really got a lot of crispiness in every bite.

We also ordered a cucumber salad, but forgot to take a picture of that. You know what cucumbers look like. It was good.

Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back.
