I see from your profile that you are Italian. Are these called “pumpkin” where you live? For example, if I walked into a local market and asked for “pumpkin”, would I be pointed to this variety of squash? Or is pumpkin a catch all for all squash?
Where I live, we would refer to these as butternut squash or winter squash but never pumpkin.
Pumpkins are a specific kind of squash for eating specific dishes, making Jack-o’-lanterns, and in the more interesting parts of my country, chucking with a catapult.
