Balinese Chicken Satay

Marinade
1/4 soy sauce
1/4 cup sugar in the raw
5 garlic cloves, smashed
1/4 piece of ginger
1/2 tsp black peppercorn
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sesame oil

Add all ingredients except sesame oil to small saucepan and simmer on medium-low heat for 15 minutes. Add sesame oil to finish. Strain and allow to cool to room temperature.

Reserve 1 tablespoon of marinade to add to the dipping sauce.

Chicken
1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs
1/4 cup marinade
1 tbs olive oil
1/2 lime, juiced

While the marinade cools, cut chicken thighs into bite sized pieces and soak your bamboo skewers in water to prevent them from burning. Add marinade, olive oil, and lime juice to the chicken and allow to marinate in the refrigerator for an hour. Put chicken on skewers and they can be baked, barbecued, or cooked on the stovetop.

Sauce
2 tbs peanut butter
1/4 cup coconut milk
1 tbs marinade

Combine all ingredients over medium-low heat and stir until smooth, about 3 minutes.

  1. French are so arrogant, this story makes me smile! Also, I 'm biracial white and South Asian from Alabama, Black American English is the language of our collective soul ❤

  2. Love this, politely pointing out someones contradictions or hypocrisy either opens their eyes to a new perspective, or shows that their caring about an issue is only one-sided. Truly the best way to deal with these kinds of cultural divides ❤

  3. Thats pretty dope. A nice simple interaction that hopefully tauhht the fellow an important lesson. Its important to return the courtesy you seek from others.

  4. Yeeeeah my friend explained how the french language was essentially dying because their pretentiousness around the language creates such a barrier and makes it inaccessible for people to learn and practice speaking it. And then the 2024 Olympics happened, further proving their lack of hospitality 😂. I truly don’t get the appeal.

  5. Love the way you politely opened up his eyes to a new perspective. Gave him something to think about! I love this! I must subscribe.

  6. I'm glad you checked him. I felt that same attitude he was giving when I was in France 🙄 their didn't like me one bit 😅

  7. Pronunciation matters greatly in general. Alot of Paris people are pretty stuck up. 💀 It doesn't matter what ethnicity you are. If you're not from Paris, don't speak French (well or not at all) and aren't upper class; you're automatically concerned lower class, if not down right inferior. Especially if you're an American. Yeah no thank you. You can take that crap and shove it back up where the sun doesn't sun. 😁🤣

  8. Black pronunciation? American English pronunciation, I believe all people in the U.S territory pronounce this the same way it doesn’t change per race, I have to say that comment IS IGNORANCE at it’s FINEST. It doesn’t matter where it originated from, and btw I am sure if you went to the heart of Africa and found it’s roots it would not be pronounced like we do in English, as in their mother tongue.

  9. ~ THANK YOU! As a Black American—on a French record label—my name is pronounced SHUH-MAH… I’m from the south. We don’t pronounce hard Rs. #Respectfully

  10. What’s is even wilder is that Pac’s name is derived from the name of a prominent South American warrior king. The way black folks pronounce PAC’s full first name is correct but that’s not about the nuance of AAVE that’s about the correct pronunciation of his name in the Spanish dialect. But Europeans often think they know better …

  11. France has while ass govt body to determine what words are French. They’re trained to be proud and discrete. It’s not just your culture, it’s likely any culture that isn’t french getting the same short shift.
