My friend brought this back from Japan, but we don’t know what it is. How do we eat it? Is it jerky of the sea? Do you just eat it out of the bag? Can you help?

Dried squid and octopus, a classic beer drinking snack

Dried and seasoned squid prepared four ways, ready for immediate snack consumption. Good for beer and nihonshu

Eat it! Think of it as seafood jerky. Surprised to see a photo of unopened bags, they usually get ripped open and devoured! Haha. Enjoy your fun snack. Nice friend you got there.

Looks like it could be ramen toppings

  5. Jerky of the sea is basically correct. Don’t open in confined public or work spaces. It smells. Don’t eat before any occasion where bad breath would be unwelcome.

You can toss it in the microwave for like 30 seconds to make it softer

It’s a dried squid snack, usually eaten when drinking beer or sake. Go easy on it though, if you go a little overboard on it and/or the drinks it’s the worst hangover because how much it dehydrates you.

Most Asian kids grow up on dried squid snacks.

My dad dips it in kewpie mayonaisse and downs it with beer.

  10. The second I saw this I could smell it and my mouth started watering.

Yes it will smell, but it will taste amazing and be worth it. Yes you eat it as is. It’s just like beef jerky, but seafood.
