It’s theirs now. Plant some more elsewhere if you can and buy some as needed in the meantime

  2. MolotovBurrito

It’s not your parsley anymore ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Schaus’ swallowtail butterfly is protected as an Endangered species by the Federal Endangered Species Act. If this is the species then it’s not your parsley anymore and if you remove them your freedom will be removed. sticky situation i’d say get more parsley, and support your wildlife.💯

Buy parsley at the store and enjoy the caterpillar’s appreciation?

  5. bikeonychus

Next year, I would simply plant more 🙂

They also like carrot tops, and dill! I had a few nibbling my carrot tops and the carrots themselves grew without any issue. I wish I had gotten more, because the butterflies are really beautiful.

There are so many caterpillars on that one plant..unless the plant is way bigger than the portion shown in the photo you may need to move some more parsley, dill, fennel, or carrots within reach because they might run out. If you can’t move plants you can pick the stalk the caterpillar is on and put the stalk amongst one of the compatible plants.

  7. It’s time to plant more anyway. I would get some more going in a big pot to bring in for the winter, and let the caterpillars enjoy the summer leftovers.

Just buy some parsley. If they get to be Butterflies… so much positive karma.

Think of how happy each of those butterflies and future generations of butterflies will make people upon seeing them. They will inspire children to think the world is beautiful. The ones that don’t make it will feed baby birds or other pollinators( wasps). Flowers will get pollinated and will make people happy.

They eradicated my dill this spring. I was fine with that as I don’t eat much dill and it was getting too warm for it anyway. I brought one of my parsley plants to them (yay container gardening) when they ran out of dill but they were not as interested in it.

This year I will plant a bunch more dill; it’s almost time to start it (I am going to try seed starting indoors and direct sowing outdoors to see which does better). I have enjoyed seeing the butterflies.

I’d buy parsley at the store. It’s not expensive. Your parsley will recover. These things coexist in nature. 🙂 Swallowtails are valuable.

    Plant more parsley next year!

Caterpillars are way more important than parsley

  12. Researcher-Used

Tell me the truth, do you really need the parsley anyway? Lol.

I once was about to sacrifice my broccoli for white butterflies but the rain took care of it.

  13. QueenRooibos

If it were me, I’d choose the monarchs! They need all the help we can give them…

  14. CityBuckets

I would just plant some extra companion plants like dill. They are my dill plants and left everything else alone. So now I just plant extra for them. It’s a give and take situation. Now the vine borer can kiss my ass. It’s war with them.

Next time plant some extra away from your garden and re-locate them. Butterflies are great pollinators.

  16. CanuckInTheMills

Pssssst …There’s more at the store.

  17. I will send you seeds and some of my parsley if you let them eat yours! lol. I’d love to have them eating my parsley. Swallowtails are my favorite. 🦋

  18. VaWeedFarmer

Parsley will be back, so will dill. Plant extra if you can.

  19. Paul__miner

You may feel better if you shift your mindset: the garden is for all of us, humans and wildlife alike.

  20. schmoopser

I’ll trade you parsley for butterflies. I have way too much.

  21. I’m jealous, I have only been visited by one so far. I named it Stan, but it disappeared a few days after I found it 🙁

  22. Regular-History7630

You planted that just for them right?🙃

  23. sandman6977

Plant a sacrificial plant/group of plants next year to move them to if they pop up. That way you can cheer on the caterpillars and keep your preferred plants

  24. CartographerUpbeat61

Stand back and say to yourself you are helping the world save butterflies 🦋!!!

  25. Tarphiker

A worthy sacrifice for Mother Nature. We need our pollinators more than you need that parsley. With all due respect of course.
