Jager schnitzel with rotkohl (sweet and sour red cabbage) on kasespatzle (cheesy dumplings)and mashed potatoes, and topped with a mushroom ragout, on a baguette

And my kid found a giant puffball today so I schnitzeled up a slice of that too.

Is that like the German version of a Thanksgiving Day leftovers sammich?

Looks absolutely perfect. Never thought about cutting up schnitzel for a sandwich but I will now!

Sometimes I really, *really* miss Germany. I lived there for about three years and a lot of their food tickles me in the right places.

The wave of “non traditional” sandwiches here the past few days has been just delightful!

Rotkohl on a sandwich is blowing my mind. I love that stuff and make it from time to time at home. Never thought to put it on a sandwich.

A low to medium heat will prevent the bread crumbs from burning. Panko is really sensitive to heat.

Also, wiping the pan out after each fry is key to having perfectly golden brown schnitzels each cook.

Food looks great just helping out those that want a more golden brown.

  14. This is all of my favorite things, on a roll. I’m gobsmacked.

Looks warm and cozy. I love German food and this has some of my faves namely the schnitzel and rotkohl (which I can eat by itself). Awesome job!!!!

  18. Rotkohl is one of my favorite foods. Super easy to make, healthy, and absolutely incredibly delicious. It’s sad it has never caught on in the US.
