Given the crud on the steam wand, I wouldn’t have high hopes for it having been well maintained.

If you are handy with plumbing and electricity, it doesn’t matter. No matter what is broken inside, it will be easy to fix.

If you want a machine that works and won’t need repair soon, you might want to look elsewhere.

this is either a really good deal with tons of upside or a mediocre deal with high risk. the rancilio has a boiler where if the heating element goes out, you have to replace the whole boiler which i believe comes out to about 300 dollars. BUT if it’s functioning at 150 then that’s probably a good deal regardless

You’ll need to thoroughly descale and back flush the machine. The goal is for you to run water through the machine and be able to notice only a small difference in the taste when it went in.

I’d also check for rust throughout the frame. Models V1 through V3 have iron frames that can rust.

If you get this far, I’d recommend replacing the gaskets for the group head and steam wand. You’ll be able to find parts and guides readily.

FYI, the machine is either a V1 or V2 rancilio Silvia so you’ll need parts that work for those machines.

“Was working good” is the equivalent of “ran when parked”
