I haven’t bought granola in over two years because I started making it myself. 10/10, highly recommend

I just never realized how easy it was, so if you’re also wondering: Just coat your oats and nuts in a buttery sugar syrup with preferred flavorings, then bake at 300°F/150°C for 20-30 mins (depending on the recipe). That’s literally it.

I spend around $6 on a batch, but I get 2-3x the amount of granola that usually comes in a bag, and it lasts for at least a month in the pantry.

The key to getting the granola to last is to make sure it has dried out **completely** before storing. I let the tray cool for about 30 mins, then break the granola slab up into pieces with clean hands. It should break apart really easily, but if it’s sticky at all, pop it back in the oven for a few minutes to finish drying out. (Otherwise, it can go a little soggy in the container—speaking from experience lol.) Then, store in an airtight container.

Pictured are maple pecan granola, vanilla almond granola, dark chocolate granola, and honey pecan granola. Let me know if you want the recipes for any of them—always happy to share!

Yes, please. All recipes would be appreciated. I figured it was probably less expensive to make at home but never did the math. Now that I know, it’s kind of a no-brainer. Good job and thanks in advance for the recipes. ☺

I’d love all the recipes. We use so much granola.

    Also your pictures are gorgeous.

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been buying the Great Value honey granola from Walmart to make banana bread cookies. This is going to open up so many more options for me.

I make my own too, and it’s so easy and so much cheaper!! My kids and I eat it in Our yogurt for breakfast every morning. I love playing with flavors!!

    My base recipe:
    In a large bowl, combine
    4 c oats
1-2 c nuts and seeds of choice (I vary based on overall flavor profile
    1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c cocoa nibs (optional depending on flavor profile)

In a small pan, heat and stir to combine:
    1/2 c fat/oil
    1/2 c sweetener
    Spices/seasonings to taste
    2 Tbs nut butter (optional)

Stir liquids into oat/nut mixture and ensure everything is fully coated. Spread on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 300 45-60 minutes, stirring every 20 minutes or so. Let cool completely on baking sheet before mixing in dried fruit, chocolate chips, or any additional add jns.

    Flavor variations:

    Basic:
Use mixed nuts (I get the Costco mixed nuts bag which has almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews, pistachios)
    Add cocoa nibs

    1/2 c canola oil
    1/4 c maple syrup
    1/4 c light brown sugar
    1/2 tsp vanilla
    2 tsp cinnamon
Mixed dried fruit (cranberries, cherries, chopped dried apricots)

    Cherry vanilla:
    Almonds
    Social nibs
    1/2 c canola oil
    1/4 c maple syrup
    1/4 c light brown sugar
    1/2 tsp vanilla
    1/4 tsp almond extract
    1 tsp cinnamon

    Cranberry orange
    Almonds and pecans
    1/2 c canola oil
1/3 c water + 1/3 c sugar to make a syrup. Add peel from one orange and simmer until thick and reduced to about 1/2 c. Remove orange peel, finely slice it and stir it into the oats.
    1/2 tsp vanilla
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1/2 tsp ground ginger
    1/2 tsp orange flower water
    Dried cranberries

One of my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes used granola, that I always made myself. I no longer have the cookie recipe though, so I’m pretty sad.

    They look beautiful!

Do you have any with lower sugar or sugar substitute by chance?

  12. Puptastical

Me too. It’s so fun to make. And tastes so much better

My boyfriend is allergic to tree nuts, and Costco just discontinued the ONE brand of bulk granola he liked and could safely eat. Now I’m totally going to surprise him with some homemade granola one day! Thank you!!!

OMG I have been needing the a push to do this myself and this might be it!! It is killing me to spend so much $$ on granola and a family member just gave me a bunch of maple syrup…. So this needs to happen haha.

I had some almond flour I needed to use up and decided to try about a quarter cup in my bi-weekly granola bake, which is similar to your recipe. Now I can’t make granola without it. It coats everything with little nut bits making the granola craggy and delicious. In the winter I’ll add molasses and ginger for gingerbread flavor. I bake mine for an hour at 325. We like it very toasted.

  16. freekandgeak

omg i love it!! do you soak them before coating and baking?

  17. TheBlondegedu

How do you get those beautiful looking clusters? I always end up with a really loose granola whenever I make my own.

  18. Nurse_mommy30

I mistakenly bought steel cut oats. Any steal cut recipes?

Me too! Recipe from Alaska from Scratch prompted me to add quinoa to my granola, extra protein!
