Continuing my journey through Asturias, a region less known to many international travelers. Full of natural beauty and very small restaurants in villages showcasing their best dishes/products.
Casa Marcial is located in the lushy Asturian mountains. They offer 3 menus starting with the shortest, La Salgar, at €130
We were really excited about dining at Casa Marcial due to its reputation in the region and 2 Michelin stars. In my opinion the food was really good and highlighted ingredients and classic dishes from Asturias.
However, the service did not meet expectations. Completely ignored the note on the reservation about shellfish allergy. We remind them when we sit down… first bite comes out and it’s a snail broth… we let them know again… apologies… two courses later another plate with shellfish… apologies… end of shellfish courses, thankfully.
Lastly, I was celebrating a milestone birthday and it was noted on the reservation. It was even mentioned during casual conversation with sommelier and chef as they were asking where we were from and how we had travel from so far to this restaurant. Absolutely nothing was brought out to acknowledge this. Just very disappointed.
Really really wanted to love this place but service was such a let down.

Man I’m really sorry the service didn’t go well. I have eaten at Casa Marcial (did the cider pairing) and I recently stayed at their hotel that houses their sister restaurant, Narbasu. Had wonderful experiences at each so I’m really sorry this happened.
For anyone curious, one very cool thing is that they keep very simple, grandma type dishes in all of their restaurants (even casa marcial) and they’re made with hyper local products made in the most traditional style… and since rural Asturias compared to lots of Spain is relatively untouched… it really adds something special to the experience.
Nacho’s sister was telling me they’re all worried about how old the blood sausage lady is getting… she’s the best around and no one can quite match the love and care and quality product she uses. It’s part of why their Fabada is a spiritual experience to me… insanely good… yet it’s the most typical Asturian dish there is.
