All, since this hive mind was a fantastic font of advice for my upcoming garlic adventures, I'm wondering about grinding corn.
I have this lovely little plot of grinding corn, 10+' tall and rocking a solid set of ears per stalk, but I'm not 100% when to harvest, and I've read mixed reviews.
It's Pungo Creek Butcher Corn, which I think grew really well, despite being in NE. The warm summer probably helped.
So all that to ask:
1.) How do it determine when to harvest?
2.) How do you process the ears for cornmeal?
My husband has a grain mill for beer I was thinking about using, but I'm all ears to your suggestions. 😉

I am growing popcorn – I guess we are both looking for a similar result: hard kernels. I am waiting until the whole plant looks quite dead. Can’t claim to be an expert though.
you let it dry on the plant, and when the ear hangs down it’s ready to cut on a dry day.
