Hello, everyone. I'd like to start with the fact that English is not my first language, so i might not get the terminology right. But i hope i do.
The policy of thr coffee shop i work at is to have the portafilter and the group washed untill it's golden with no spots. I've worked in three different coffee shops over my career, but that's the first time i see anything like this enforced. Of course the portafilters and the groups were washed daily using the appropriate chemicals in all the places I've worked at, but in this one we must basically polish them like so. Moreover, the company policy is to wash them every two hours, but with how many people passes, it's more like we wash them two times a day + at the end of the shift.
We use metal sponges to do it, and it's very labourous, because the coffee oils don't wash off that easily. Even in the photo you can see that the items are scratched
Could anyone tell me if this is standard practice?

Soak in cafiza/pulycaf, clean with a sponge and thoroughly rinse afterwards

  2. I soak mine in a tub with some hot water and cafiza cleaner. Then I scrub. It’s made to get coffee oil off of metal so it works really well

  3. Wash them off with water and give them a bit of a scrub to knock off any thick material. Then soak them in a container with whatever product you use to backflush your espresso machine over night.

Morning people then just need to wash them off with water and wipe them with a towel/sponge.

Rinse and wipe. You shouldn’t really ever clean/strip it

I usually soak them in cafiza and hot water, clean with a sponge and rinse till it’s clean
If ur company wants them clean every few hour you should ask for more backup portafilters, that way u can keep one soaking and clean while the other one is in use

    First i gotta say.

Damn, that is one clean simonelli portafilter and dispersion plate. Please please never change!!

As for cleaning it easily. With how clean it is in this picture shouldnt be hard. But please plase STOP using a metal scrub for the portafilters. Steel wool will scratch and erode material from the softer metal of the portafilter. The deep scratches and scours also make jt harder to clean those area when coffee oils and residue get in them.

Dissassemble your portafilters just like you have and soak them in [puro caf](https://urnex.com/puro-espresso-machine-cleaning-powder) and hot water. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Dump out the water and rinse then polish with a clean cloth. Repeat if necessary.

Scrub with hot ass water and a touch of cafiza. Let it soak if I have time or it’s really bad.

It’s not standard practice. Every 2 hours is excessive. Most places do light rinses/scrubs during the day and a deep soak/clean at close. What they have you guys doing is probably deteriorating it faster than if they’d clean it like normal.

I used to them in a tub of hot water and caffieza, let them soak for a little bit. And then wipe them out with a clean cloth

    ~~you wash your portafilter?~~

I make sure to rinse and dry it after every use and then occasionally use cafiza cleaner!

Soak in water. Take a cut up 2×2 inch green scrubby and baking soda and scrub them clean. Takes almost no time if you soak them for 10m or so.

Cafiza soak + boil with steam wand at close.

  13. Soak in cafiza water at end of day while you clean the espresso machine

I used to use a green brillo pad pushed with the back of a tea spoon handle after soaking in cafiza.

Personally I use a drill and a hacksaw, and a metal file make a naked porta filter and then only have to worry about cleaning the basket.

Very impressive cleaning, hats off to yee!! Definitely a sign of a good shop that no one gets too see!!!!
