I’ve never tried spiral before, but it looks like it would be good!

A hot dog spiral cutter is honestly the only kitchen uni-tasker I think is worth having. I’ve done it by hand enough to know my knife skills suck.

Spiral is the best way to eat a hotdog period

Spiral, and the trick I use to get a “true” spiral is stick a skewer (preferably wood) lengthwise and use that as a guide for the knife, then leave it in to cook and push it out when you are ready to serve; it gives so much more surface area to brown, put sauce/seasoning/toppings in, and makes for an interesting texture.

  5. Cuts on all sides, eventually becomes a spiral

  6. Spiral. Or I cut the three times, lengthwise (curls). Anything that opens up the insides is going to impart more flavors though.

Spiral is the way to go for me, they get nice and toasty on the edges

Spiral here, mostly though to my kids always requesting it. I think it does taste better though, I am just usually super lazy.

Spiral with an octopus on the ends

I did crisscross cuts recently and loved that!

I’m new to the spiral and I like it👍👍

Does cutting slices or spirals do anything negative for moisture retention? I can see how increased surface area would be beneficial.

I’m a Nathan’s bun length hotdog on a potato roll kinda guy. I just like to put them on ‘as is’ until the fat starts liquifying and rips the surface open.

I’ve never done spiral, but imma try it next time.

I usually butterfly mine. Gold Coast Dogs did their char-dog like this and it’s stuck with me.

I honestly didn’t know people cut the casings on purpose…. why would you want all the juices to leak out? What a waste.

Whole. A hot dog tastes like a hot dog no matter what you do to it. No need to waste the time and effort

Yes. Remember the hot dog whistler on the Sonic commercials?

I just let them split however they please on the grill.

Spiral because the kiddies think that looks festive. But please dont molest the sausage I’ll be eating!

Gotta do the spider. Cut a X half way down on each end and they go all hairy.

Personally I prefer a dog to split on its own. Sausages OTOH I’ll tend to cut depending on how thick it is. My gf is a professional Mord-Sith torture dom and taught me this while she was hammering horseshoe nails into my scrotum.
