Fruitcake for those who don’t like fruitcake


As we are getting into the holiday season, I wanted to share this fruit and nut cake from Tartine’s cookbook that makes an excellent addition to a cheeseboard.

I am NOT a fruitcake person. In fact, the only food I can ever remember actually spitting out of my mouth (as an adult), was a fruitcake. But this fruit and nut loaf cake from Tartine is something else. There’s no booze, it’s the perfect amount of sweet, and chock full of nuts. I made it for the first time last year, and I’ll be making it again this year. I tried a few different cheeses with it, but my favorite pairings were Cabot’s Farmhouse Reserve Cheddar and Kerrygold’s Dubliner (open to other suggestions!).

    I don’t like the store bought fruitcake. I once made the Claire Saffitz one and it was really good. This not fruitcake looks very tasty

    Long live fruitcake! I adore it! There was a joke I heard (on Johnny Carson, I think) which was “There is really only ONE fruitcake and it just keeps getting re-gifted,” or something to that effect.
    This version looks great!

    The ONLY fruit cake I EVER EAT is the fruit cake from Fratellis Bakery. It is THE BEST!!!! I dont like fruit cake 🤣🤣 …. Your sharkbooterie board is fantastic !!!

    I don’t like fruit cake at all (got one for an elementary school cake walk game and my mom made me try it) and somehow you made it look appetizing.
