Best sake tastings from trip to Japan 2024 (Aramasa adventure + Pink Unicorn)

Wanted to show off some really tasty and hard to find sake we tried from our trip to Japan.

Best by far was the Aramasa Pink Unicorn we tried at an omakase experience in Osaka. Unbelievably sweet, complex, and truly divine.

Reposting because original post got removed by mods but I think a post about sake/drink pairings would be beneficial for r/finedining?

I did a sake pairing with a Kaiseki meal at Fushikino in Tokyo last year and it was fantastic. One of the best meals of the trip and I loved being guided through the varieties of sake by the host.

Could you list some of the bottle names?

I really want to like it. But I must admit I don’t at this point. Have tried a few different in Spain, at Noma and bought a few recommended by a danish Somm specialiced in sake. Had one that was Sparkling and very citrusy, that’s the only one I’ve enjoyed. For me it tends to be a bit too heavy like sherry which I’m not fond of either yet

  4. I tried a mezcal pairing in Oaxaca and honestly the booze was just too strong for. After the third one I was drunk and asked to switch to wines.

I went back to Japan this year as well. Thanks for sharing, the world of sake is vast and varied. I love how they leave the bottle for a little bit. It was great to chat with staff to learn the intricacies. I brought home toooo many bottles.
