I would like to begin canning and pickling. These look tempting to get started for cheap but it's odd to me that it does not get hot. I have an instant pot of like to try pressure canning in but it does not have the settings. Help please, I have 30 pounds of apples , 12oz jars and a can grabber but nothing else.

You cannot use this to make shelf stable preserves with. This is for dry goods only. Also you cannot use an instant pot for pressure canning. All you really need is a big pot of water (for water bath canning)and the jars with new lids.

Pressure canning requires a pressure canner. Instant pot specifically says you cannot can with them.

Get yourself a $40 water bath canning pot and use a tested Ball recipe.

Your insta-pot won’t work, pressure cookers are different than pressure canners. That vacuum seal thing won’t work, it just vacuums the lid on by sucking the air out of the jar. It’s good for storing dried things like herbs/tea or maybe fruit in the fridge for a few extra days. It will *not* make the food shelf stable.

OP: you cannot use an Instant Pot of any sort for pressure canning. You need an actual pressure canner: Mirro, Presto or All-American (very expensive but high quality and durable). The photograph is of an item that is not a pressure canner at all.

If you want to start canning apples on the cheap you can use a big stock pot with a rack or jar lids on the bottom to water bath can apples safely.
