We’re continuing our Balkan food tour and have made it to Bulgaria. We can’t wait to try all the incredible street food in Bulgaria and eat all of the most popular food in Bulgaria. We’re starting our Balkan food tour of Sofia with some traditional and local Bulgarian foods.

We started our Sofia food tour tasting the local banista, a must try food in Bulgaria. We continue on to a super traditional restaurant for some local favourite foods like shopska and kavarma. Next up was a local cafeteria style eatery to try some homemade dishes of moussaka and tarator, finishing off with a unique tripe soup and of course, rakija! When in the Balkans, you’ve gotta have rakia.

The tastes and flavours of all the incredibly delicious food here in Bulgaria is really making us look forward to exploring this cuisine even more.

We hope you enjoy our Sofia food tour in Bulgaria, tasting all the tasty food from banitsa and moussaka to rakija. What do you think, is Bulgarian food the best in the Balkans?

  1. Kinda bothering to see the lady how she holds the fork… Instead of the food, I cannot help myself looking at her fingers… LOL! I even tried to mimic her, but no luck. But sure she is pretty and cheerful, making me smile.

Bulgarian Moussaka… It reminds me more of English Shepherds pie. Hang-over tripe soup (Is it an universal thing? I know other countries also have such things) and garlic in vinegar… Bulgarian version of it, I must try!
