I bought this steakhouse beef tri-tip from Costco a couple weeks ago and it says use or freeze by September 15, 2024. I don’t want it to go to waste. Should I take a chance? Is there any smell or any signs of spoilage I should look for?

  1. If you are making it for other people, no.

If you are making it for yourself, yes. If the first bite is off, toss.

Unless it smells, then don’t eat it.

It says up to 12% seasoning and marinade. That shit has enough salt you could probable fine eating it a month from now. I say safe but it’s your call

2 weeks old.. questionable.. it all depends on the marinade, but the smell test immediately after opening will tell you. If it smells off then toss but I’d be tempted to slice a small piece to cook a sample, for science..

Check the smell and texture your nose will tell you if it’s off even marinated and texture wise if it’s slimy it’s done

You have 3 frames of reference.
appearance, smell, and taste in that order.

If it smells ok and looks ok, see how it tastes

  6. If it has been refrigerated and does not smell rotten, go for it with good temperature.
