A friend of mine is cleaning out his garage and said I can have this electric smoker for nothing . It looks to be in pretty bad shape on the inside. Any suggestions on how to go about cleaning this? The manual says no oven cleaner at all!

As the manual says. Dont clean it!
Its a smoker.
It needs to all tar black on the inside, before its super good. So start that bad boy up with a helluva lot of smoke!!
Krud Kutter degreaser and let it soak for a while. A STEEL Scrub Daddy will clean up the stainless steel racks real nice.
Simple Green or Purple Power and a pressure washer?
Oven cleaner and scotchbrite pads.
The 9 mil Hardy nitrile gloves at Harbor Freight are gonna be your friend.
No! Clean the racks only!
That’s flavor country. Don’t clean it!
I have an all stainless Smokin-It smoker and all I do wipe the inside down with 50/50 white vinegar and water – no scrubbing. The only thing I clean with oven cleaner is the temp probe. The racks get run through the dishwasher.
Just follow whatever the manufacturer recommends and you should be fine.
Spend $15 in materials and $75 in time to clean. Or just buy a brand new one for $80
It looks good to me. Actually needs more seasoning than that.
Rule number one about smokers, you never clean them until it starts flaking off. Then you just take a balled up piece of foil and rough it up so all these shit falls off. You never truly clean them. Scrape the racks before you start, and keep the grease trap empty and you are good
I’m not familiar with smokers but is it supposed to be like a coffee/tea pot and not cleaned so it adds flavour? I have a toaster oven/convection/rotisserie ovens d it needs cleaning because of splatters from when making a rotisserie chicken and I don’t know how to clean it properly.
Well I don’t have a smoker. But we own a ~500 year old house with a smoke room in between the tiled stove and the chimney. From how thick the residue on the wall is I don’t think you clean them.

Don’t do it

Foil clean the racks, give the grease trap some love, season it some more and should be fine.
Portable steam cleaner.
It’s like a good season pizza pan you don’t clean it just wipe down the racks
Get a big pot of vinegar and close it up and get it hot for a couple of hours. I’ll bet you’ll be able to wipe it all off.
This is how I clean mine. Remove the racks and clean those in the utility sink. Line the bottom with foil. Spray inside with apple cider vinegar and the warm up the smoker 200F and turn off. Scrap down the surfaces with a putty knife. Get rid of the foil and then scrape the bottom. Wipe down anything remaining with paper towels and ACV. Wear disposable gloves and be mindful of the temp sensors.
