This is my first time baking a cake 😠coffee mud cake with maple buttercream icing. The cake itself turned out fine at least

Hey, that’s a good cake for a first timer! I think it mostly comes down to the intensity of the blue because then the stars buttercream would have looked cute on it even if it’s not plentiful.

You could scrape off the stars, put a few craters in it and call it a moon cake 😀 Don’t let this discourage you, keep on practicing.

Cake decorating is not easy. You did really well for a first attempt!

This is a good job for a first attempt! Did you have any questions or want feedback? How did it taste?

Slapping a smiling face right in the middle of any cake you’re decorating always saves it, trust me

That’s amazing for a first cake. Keep on going.Â

Looks really good for a first try! It’s hard to get colors very saturated with buttercream. I’ve seen people have success with melting it and letting it come back to room temp to have more vivid colors.

Don’t stop now! Add more stars and I think it’ll come together.

It’s pretty!

If someone I knew made this for a special occasion I would be so stoked! I know it’s not what you pictured but it’s legitimately cute as hell!

Tbh I like that shade of blue more even though it’s not the theme; keep up the good work!

I actually think the reality looks very elegant! You have an artistic hand.

I’ve also found that some buttercreams don’t accept color well. The recipe might need to be altered to get that more intense blue.

Excellent first cake! I like the blue as you have done rather than the original personally but a tip for the future if you do wish to do this again or want more vivid colours is to put the colour in and leave it overnight it will enhance with time generally Navy, red, purple and orange are all really hard to make vivid you’ve done really well be proud of this

I’m not gonna lie I like yours more. I think it’s so cute
