Homemade Meaty Lasagna (Kellz Way)
-Ingredients-
12 lasagna pasta shells
1 onion
1 bell pepper
1 red bell pepper chopped
2 tablespoons
3lbs ground turkey
1 tablespoon seasoned salt
1 tablespoon caramelized onion butter
I use Kinder’s
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1tablespoon onion powder
3 cloves fresh chopped garlic
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon basil
128oz can crushed tomatoes
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon oregano
2 cups ricotta cheese
1 egg
2 cups mozzarella cheese
2 cups parmesan cheese
2 cups mixed cheddar cheese
-Instructions-
To prepare this mouthwatering Meaty Lasagna, begin by placing a large pot on the stove over medium heat. Add salt and pasta, cooking until al dente, which should take about 7 minutes. Then, remove the pot from the heat.
In a large skillet set to medium, pour in olive oil and add ground turkey. Cook until the turkey is browned, then take it out of the pan. In the same skillet, toss in onions and bell peppers, cooking until tender, approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Next, add garlic and sauté for about one minute until fragrant. Return the turkey to the skillet and mix well.
Once combined, stir in Italian seasoning, basil, crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, and oregano. Lower the heat to a simmer and let it cook for around 20 minutes. While the meat simmers, prepare the cheeses. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese and an egg, mixing until well incorporated.
Now that the meat is ready, it’s time to assemble the lasagna. In a 9×13 inch baking dish, start with a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom, followed by a small amount of cheese to act as a glue. Next, layer pasta over the sauce and cheese, then spread the ricotta mixture on top of the pasta. Add another layer of cheese, followed by more meat sauce. Repeat these layers until you reach the top, ensuring the final layer is cheese.
Sprinkle parsley on top for a touch of color. Cover the dish with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. After this, remove the foil and return it to the oven for an additional 25 to 30 minutes to achieve a golden-brown finish. Once it reaches your desired browning, take it out and let it rest; the longer it rests, the better it will set. Serve with a side salad and some delicious garlic butter rolls.
