Hi everyone,
My partner and I (late-twenties from France) will be visiting New York next month, a first for both of us. We both really enjoy eating out as restaurant culture is huge where we’re from and are looking to sample some of what New York has to offer. We prefer laid back places with short menus, that don’t try and do too much and aren’t filled with influencers. Cuisine wise we are very open, always with a preference for places that focus on locally sourcing their products.
I’ve drawn up a list of 50 or so places (from high-end to street food vendors see here https://maps.app.goo.gl/wJnnYwpwwWBRJgD17?g_st=i )so we can easily find a place to grab a bite to eat wherever we are in the city. That being said, I’d have a few questions to prepare for our trip:
Any recommendations for restaurants that really focus on local produce? It feels like New York is more about celebrating the different food cultures that exist there (and rightly so!) but I’m wondering if there’s a niche for that kind of experience as well. Restaurants or wine bars that focus on US/new world wines would also be great as we don’t get to drink them that often. Doesn’t need to be strictly Manhattan as we’re keen on exploring the different boroughs.
We’d like to splurge on one or two meals during our week-long stay. I’ve made a safety booking for lunch at Le Bernardin – can anyone confirm if it’s worth it? Or are we better off going for dinner at a place like Dirt Candy which has been getting a lot of love on this subreddit. Lunch at a 3* I find to be a good way of getting good value out of something that would otherwise be outrageously priced, so would be interested to hear from anyone who’s been to Le Bernardin.
Thanks everyone!
