that is a pressure cooker not a pressure canner unfortunately.

If the gasket is in good shape—and it appears to be new, it’s probably good. Try it out with just water and see if it holds steam.

Stove top pressure COOKER. Think instant pot but without any buttons and you heat it on the stovetop.
Please don’t try to can anything in there.

Actually, that does not look like a pressure canner, it looks more like a pressure cooker. There is a big difference between the two and you cannot use the pressure cooker for canning anything safely.

Thank you to everyone for the information. I was hoping to use it to can small batches, but I will not now. Glad I posted here.
What is the reason you should not use a pressure cooker to can? In my simple mind I think that if you can bring it up to pressure and keep it there, it should be fine. Can someone give some technical info on this?
FYI my wife bought me a Mirro canner two years ago for Christmas. I’ve canned a few things, using published and tested recipes. This year my tomatoe garden refuses to stop producing. I’m enjoying this new hobby.

Looks like a pressure cooker to me. You can see the similarities, but it’s not deep enough to can. And I highly recommend not using this to can anything.

Isn’t that a three piece pressure wheight On the left ? Used similar to the wheight on the mirramatic where there was 5 10 and 15 lb settings and would jiggle when pressure was reached ……you might try to find a manual on line for better information
