I have 2kg roles oats
Some 100% dark chocolate powder
A small amount of peanut powder
An packet of seasonings and a packet of sausage casserole mix
A can of tuna
A couple of peppers
A pot of cottage cheese
And 3 chicken breast.
I need to make this last until payday on the 15th. But I don't eat big portions.
Can you all suggest the best way to make this stretch into as many meals as possible with. I cam skip a meal a day of needed.
I have $53 left and $30 has to go to travel to and from work, meaning I have $20 to buy small things (max! I will be at zero after that.)
I've had a really crappy time this past year and it is getting so much better! (I just started my dream job!) But after using all my savings to survive I have nothing left and this is what I have in my cupboards. Any and all suggestions are welcome except most meat (I only eat chicken breast)

My friend, this is a time when it is completely and totally acceptable to use a food bank near you if you have one. I’m glad things are getting better but situations like this are what we are there for. We are happy to help.
You can also head to your nearest gurudwara and they will happily give you a hot meal and company and they are such kind people. No trying to convert you, just food and kindness.
Food bank. At least try it
Just to say, I have tried a food bank and I’m not eligible. It is only for locals. I live abroad. I also don’t speak the language which makes it even harder.
Any advice on simple things to buy to padded out is appreciated.
Use some of that $20 to buy dry beans. Every cup of dry beans will give you about 3 cups cooked beans. If you have a slow cooker, just put the beans plus 3x by volume water in the slow cooker and let it cook on low for 8 hours.
Buy some rice, too. Rice and beans forms a complete protein.
It may get boring, but it will fill you up. If your grocery store does end of day discounts, or discounts on veggies that are close to spoiling, go ahead and buy what looks edible that you will eat.
You’re doing great!
Congratulations on the dream job. That sounds wonderful!
Rice and beans are usually the cheapest foods arounds. In the US mexican and asian grocery stores usually have cheap options. Meat, dairy and fruits will be more expensive per calorie.
I agree with rice and beans. Maybe eggs if they are cheap enough and full fat yougurt if you can find a big tub on sale or clearance?
Can’t definitely make overnight oats with some water and those sweetener packets. Definitely agree on the dry rice and beans from everyone else. I make this super cheap soup that’s literally just a can of beans, 16oz jar of salsa, 1 cup dry rice, taco seasoning packet, and a can of corn. Then like 6 cups of water.
Rice and beans for the win. Use those flavour packets you have to add some seasoning to the rice so it’s not so bland. For the cottage cheese, tuna and peppers, you could use them as toppings for a baked potato.
Ya need to snag some carbs like a bag of rice and you’re in business, cook that chicken and cut it into 4 oz bits and see how many meals that’ll last ya. Rice is the ultimate food imo cuz it’s gonna fill ya up for cheap. You got plenty of ways to make it fun too with the seasoning and bell peppers. Run it down to eating twice a day and maybe snag some oats or some other cheap breakfast best of luck friend
Also food banks are dope
Jsyk you can also make savoury oats, so you could definitely poach one chicken breast, shred it, use the poaching water and some of a seasoning packet to make up the oats, and then fry the poached shredded chicken and some sliced peppers and put all that on top 🙂
If you can get some affordable bouillon along with the beans/rice/potatoes you can make a big pot of soup to stretch everything. It’s also nice to have a warm cup of broth when you are hungry.
if you’re in the us i’ll send you a gift card to some local restaurant or pizza joint
Eat the raw chicken!
Buy 1 kg Rice and 1kg dry pinto Beans. Just soak beans overnight.
1. Breakfast – 50g Oats+ cocoa powder . If cocoa powder runs out, add sugar
2. Lunch – Rice + Beans + Peppers before they go bad.
3. Dinner- Rice + Beans + Chicken Breast. Then Tuna. Then just rice and beans.
4. Dessert- Cottage Cheese with cocoa powder. or just plain.
*Add different sauces for different nights.
Recipe idea:
– dry rice, soaked beans, add some of your shwarma mix and sausage casserole mix, add water, add seasoning as needed. Boil for 30 mins. Make soup.
Go to a food bank.
Like others say it’s rice and beans all the way brother! You can use some broth or stock to boil the rice in to give you a foodier taste.
Man i remember some times I ate rice and salt for a few weeks, wasnt fun, but hopefully you’ll look back on it from a better place soon enough 🙂
