Continuing my mission to make as many sandwiches from The Encyclopedia of Sandwiches (by Susan Russo) as I can, #11 is the Monte Cristo. I thought by the name it would be a fancy sandwich but it's basically an egg-fried ham and cheese sandwich with jam. Or at least, this version was like that. So of course I liked it. I used strawberry jam and it helped cut down the richness of the Swiss and deli meats. I would still enjoy it without the jam of course, bit it was a pleasant accompaniment.

Full disclosure, I made 2 yesterday and burnt one and undercooked the other because I suck at bread/pan stuff. This is the undercooked one I refried today. And I burnt the other side 🥲

Did you watch the movie while you ate the sandwich? I suggest the one with the young Superman playing in it.

It’s actually a crime to post without the cross section. Straight to jail
