I planted 3 squash plants this year: pie pumpkins, butternut and acorn.

My pie pumpkins turned out to be Jack o lanterns (and got affected by vine borers), my butternut yielded one big one (already eaten) then had a late season surge resulting in a couple more little guys, and the acorn produced quite well, but a little confusing.

What's up with the squishy top acorns?

They were the first to grow, and the ones that followed are more normal shaped, but some are still kind of wonky.

What's my squash curse and how do I fix it?

They almost look like patty pans. All the same plant? Maybe cross pollinated or some mutation? Or if it was just the first few, could be the growing conditions weren’t fully right yet.
