All American 915 question – do I need to replace this bottom? I got this vintage one used and have never canned before, so I’m replacing the valve/gauge/etc, but is this bottom OK to keep?

That shouldn’t cause any problems. Can on!

As long as the bottom is still FLAT and not domed. If the bottom is rounded or domed that means it may have been subject to over pressure at some point.

I wouldn’t, that looks like classic aluminum corrosion. You have no way of knowing how deep it goes or how long before it fails catastrophically. Best case it springs a pinhole leak and sprays out a small stream, worst case the entire bottom blows out and sends the whole thing into your ceiling. I’m saying that as an aircraft structural guy who deals with aluminum and corrosion.

Whoever had it before, put it on something that melted, you can see the square pattern there. Go to the hardware store and get some 320 grit aluminum-oxide sandpaper and you can clean that up and no time.
