Hello r/canning Reddit hivemind! Last night I tried canning apples for the first time with the recipe in the Ball Blue Book canning cookbook from 2010. I tried my best to follow the recipe and double checked the headspace was at 1/2 inch and the bands were finger tight before the waterbath. The lids were sealed when I checked them this afternoon. However the apples seemed to have expanded and there is no headspace anymore. Also the jars are a bit sticky from some syrup syphoning out. Are these safe?

Did you simmer the apples in the syrup?
