Chard has been growing very well, but the leaves started becoming more of a dark purplish color in mid summer, and at this point only the brand new leaves are actually green, and the rest are a dark color. They don’t seem to have a problem otherwise, but this makes me uneasy because I have been unable to find the cause. Any experience with this? This began during hot weather and has continued through early fall, and so it seems unlikely to me that it’s a seasonal change, though perhaps I’m wrong.

Normal. Actually, this chard is more than normal: it’s beautiful. Many varieties of chard. Some red, some green, some yellow, some mixed. Harvest and enjoy.
They do that, there fine 🙂
Looks like ruby chard, in very high sunlight. It’s normal. I had this happen to my peppers a bit in close to 15hrs of sun. Here’s a pic showing the coloration of the chard on a seed packet.

There are different varieties of chard and yours looks very healthy. Nice work.
Looks delicious to eat!
