I was fortunate enough to be handed down a big green egg! I grilled my first Tri-tip which came out better than I expected given I have no idea what I’m doing. But my neighbor advised that I might be getting inconsistent temperatures because the lid and body don’t line up perfectly.
Is this the fault of the hinge? Do I just need to replace the seal? The lid only stays up if it’s propped up.
And advice here would be greatly appreciated!

The constant battle of under/ overbites.
FOGO (Captain Ron) has a great YouTube video about this
You can work through the processes of loosening up the screws, reset the position of the top and tighten the screws back. Worked for awhile and I eventually got the new rings/hinge.
You can adjust the existing hinge, but it is a pain.
Or replace the hinge and rings.
The new version is better in all ways.
The springs hang loose when it is open, meaning you can take them off to adjust the rings and make a good seal while it is closed without having to fight the springs.
You can correct that (underbite) but I’d recommend also replacing the old style hinge.
I would also replace the gasket. It looks like it’s seen better days.
