It looks very messy but was still very yummy 😭 I clearly have a long way to go in terms of trying to put frosting on a cake…

It was a lemon cake with lemon cream cheese buttercream. Overbaked the cakes a little bit because I was scared that they were still raw in the middle because they were VERY soft when I was poking them in the oven. However, I helped (kinda) save it by adding a lemon simple syrup on top of the cakes. The cream cheese buttercream was to die for though.

Got the recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction

Happy birthday! Honestly, the messier the cake, the more love in it. Plus, it sounds delicious. Just keep baking dear! Can’t wait to see your next creation.

Anything by Sally’s baking addiction is fabulous. Try the lime cake. It takes all day because there’s batter, syrup, curd and frosting that must be made but after all the work the cake is amazing.

And I like to think, if I ever make a mistake, I just end up eating it anyway, so is it really a mistake? 😉🥰

Yummy! Happy birthday, and cakes are not easy to make! I’m always happy people give baking a try, you’ll discover a lot of cool recipes to try out soon if you enjoyed making it.

On a side note, cream cheese tends to be runny anyway, so that’s why it didn’t stay put very well. It’s impossible to frost “nicely” with runny frosting but I’m sure it’s delicious because it probably has a good amount of cream cheese in there

If you want my tips, poke the middle of the cake with a skewer and it doesn’t matter how soft it is, if the skewer comes out “clean” (it can have some oil/melted fat on it, but no cake batter ” then the cake is cooked. Try poking it early so you can see what happens when the cake isn’t fully cooked and compare to when it’s cooked.

Also, just put the buttercream in the middle and on top if you want it to look tidier. No need to try to put it on the edge, that’s an advanced skill, and I don’t think cream cheese based icing is likely to be firm enough to do the edges neatly anyway. I could be wrong.

Why are there just globs of frosting on it?
