I took my wife to a show at the Public Theater this past weekend, and we got there early enough for me to explore the nearby Wegman’s (near NYU). We were visiting from Florida, where Publix supermarkets reign supreme, and Wegman’s hasn’t expanded here. I had never been to one before, but I love exploring new grocery stores.

It was BEAUTIFUL. One of the nicest, prettiest supermarkets I’ve ever been to, and I was impressed that it was two stories with a huge basement level, like so many other stores in New York (even the Duane Reade near our hotel). All the prepared foods and baked goods looked great. I only got to spend about ten minutes wandering through, and didn’t get to buy or try anything, but anyone who has one nearby should check it out.

    My Wegmans California Experience :

    ” RUN ! ”

Gristedes uselessness but more expensive. Deli food ? Hahahahaa. They need to step up their game > BIGTIME.

Wegmans is fantastic — their brand nacho cheese chips are less expensive than Doritos and taste just as good. They’re $3.99 for family size in PA. NYC it’ll probably be more but still!

I go there for some stuff that’s cheaper than elsewhere, but it’s not spectacular. The prepared food is still really expensive, and the bakery items have a lot of shitty additives. I’m aware that cake is not a health food item, but I don’t want to spend eight dollars on a slice of cake with frosting made from palm oil.

Man Wegmans, Fairway, Whole Foods, TJ’s, and Zabar’s all in the same-ish area. Upper West Siders have it good when it comes to grocery shopping

They have some really great gluten free items and dermatological allergen friendly store brand items.

Really? There’s a Whole Foods right there at Columbus circle.

Ooh is this where the Starbucks used to be?

Wegmans of 15 years ago was even better and especially outside the city. I’m more frustrated with the Brooklyn location every time I go there and there is hardly any organic produce or just any produce in general, whatever time I go. You go to one outside of the city, when you think the city ones are great, you have no idea, fucking amazeballs!

As a native, I’d rather have the bed bath beyond back…. Or just a really nice bodega,/ deli since those are disappearing..

Also, am I the only person who thinks it’s funny that people get excited for some suburban brand of supermarkets? In Manhattan? The vanillification of NYC continues sigh

    Is Wegman’s expensive ?

Is it only for high class citizens ?
