While looking through my old community cookbooks I’ll come across a recipe for spice cake. I’ve always been Leary of trying it out due to the measurements of some of the spices. I decided today would be the day I conquer my fears and give it a try, and I’m happy to report it turned out delicious. I could tell it was a spice cake but none of the spices that I would consider heavy hitters really stood out, just a really good spice cake. Since the recipe was from 1985 I added a little more cake mix to make it 18.25 ounces and did skip the almonds other than that I made as directed. I baked mine for 35 minutes at 350 but got busy and it baked a little longer, I’m not for sure how much longer as the timer was already going off. I did half the icing recipe. If you are looking for a good homemade spice cake give this recipe a try.

I wanna try this. I think the best match for “ maple flavor” is maple extract, but I’m in one of those “make-do” sorta moods where I don’t wanna trek to the store so in my pantry I have either maple syrup OR maple sugar. I wonder which I should use??

I wish I could eat that. Haven’t had spice cake in ages 😔
