A Bordeaux blend from one of the most respected winemakers in the Monticello AVA. Only ever had it young, but was fortunate enough to be gifted this library release bottle.

$240

Cork absolutely crumbled to dust, and motivated the purchase of an Ah So that very night. Strained through a sieve into a decanter, but still got a bit of “fiber” in it.

Forgive the photo: hastily snapped and needed to edit out some personal information.

Eye: deep garnet core, has become quite brickish.

Nose: fresh berries, luxardo cherry, licorice, baking spice, cola, brine.

Mouth: liquid silk. Medium bodied, tannins have completely integrated. Absolutely no harsh edges here. Bright cherry, dried herbs, lavender, tobacco, country ham. Long finish, good acidity. Finished the first glass far faster than I’m proud to admit: this is a wine that wants to be drunk.

Wonderful experience, especially after being disappointed by younger bottles. Goes to show the heights that Virginia wine can reach if done with care.

94 points.
