It’s a pretty casual, easy to deal with, place during the week. I used to go there for lunch all the time

It all just depends what time you go
Bikouchu
I like west covina location
Duckfoot2021
You caught it on a fluke. But that NOT at all the norm. Go buy a lottery ticket–you’re in an outlier moment.
Due-Run-5342
They work fast so even if the line looks long it isn’t that bad. They’re more well staffed than the hospital I used to work at
Impossible_Disk8374
The Northridge location is always packed. But they are really efficient and it moves quickly.
hayakuneko
Everyone must be busy getting ready to watch the Dodgers
RedMage58
Yea, where the fuck are you supposed to park at that one? I gave up twice and just went to another Portos.
peacenchemicals
whoa, memories! this was the first porto’s i went to in 2009 when my ex introduced me to porto’s. crazy to see how far they’ve come
bloodredyouth
They’ve gotten quicker now that they can write down orders instead of remembering and repeating back. Also the new locations have helped
plausden
it’s not that good
notyourfriendbabes
I went the other day and it was also empty, a lot of places have been empty. Kinda scary.
frznfang
Just went to Downey on Wednesday at 2 and it was packed, smh. But I’m not willing to drive to Burbank just to avoid lines lol
cyberspacestation
I like their Glendale location. Don’t ask me about parking, but taking the bus there is a piece of cake… and then they have more cake.
doowadittie
Best chain in town. Relatively inexpensive, great food and efficient and nice service staff.
Gmarlon123
That is empty, for a Porto’s
opking
That’s the pastry and cake side. What did the sandwich side look like?
vitonga
Porto’s fucking rules. Single LA thing I miss the most. I get their stuff shipped out east from time to time.
smiledrs
With all the Porto’s around the city now, it’s taken pressure off these smaller stores. I used to have to drive to this one as it was the closet one. Now I have West Covina 15 mins away and it’s great.
happyphanx
I don’t get it. Friday lunch is not their busiest time. Try Sunday brunch.
abrahamisaninja
Maybe people finally realized this place is crazy overrated
LynchFan997
I always see a line outside this place so it’s hard to imagine this is normal for the indoors
IsamuAlvaDyson
Because Friday lunches for the corporate world are different than any other day of the week
Lots of people cater or deliver lunch on Fridays
People also leave work earlier on Fridays hence the earlier Friday traffic rush
starwad
It’s also one of the better places to order delivery: low menu prices, (historically) long lines, most of their food travels fine.
I imagine that’s taken a big bite out of the traffic.
GrandMoffJed
i don’t get portos. what’s so special? The potato croquets are good but need some kind of dipping sauce. mid for me.
uscrash
Bound to be pretty empty when you have Sensual Dragon right on the opposite corner.
Tertiary23
I was there at 230 today and IT! WAS! PACKED!
frauleinsteve
if I could, I would eat potato balls every single day…
BlackMamba_Beto
Porto’s is so overhyped
nauticalsandwich
I have absolutely nothing against this place, but early in my time in LA, I ate here on a whim, and then I worked very close by for nearly a year and had it many days for lunch, and I never considered it to be someplace special. It wasn’t until later that I found out its reputation, and I guess I just don’t really understand it. I mean, it’s certainly not bad, but my first and lasting impression of it is that it’s a pretty average bakery/cafe. Outside of their volume of production, I honestly couldn’t tell you what is standout about it.
Genuinely curious, from those who harbor a higher opinion of it, what it is, in terms of food quality, that sets it apart from other bakeries and cafes.
Hazy_Lights
There was a Dodger game in the afternoon today. Portos doesn’t have alcohol
Jeezy_7_3
This is pretty empty compared to Glendale
CallMeInV
This is a compliment to them if anything, I go there all the time. Their staff is LOCKED IN. Their expo is extremely well coordinated and they’re never under staffed. Huge props to their team for running an insanely tight ship.
BroadwayCatDad
They have so many locations now that they’ve been diluted and are no longer as special.
Steplgu
I was at a the Porto’s in Downey today and there was a line outside and both lines/sides inside were at maximum line capacity the entire time.
nightm4ress
They’ve been getting better at moving the lines fast, I live next to the one in Downey. It’s always full but I’m in and out in 10 min every time. The Buena Park location always is a mess though.

Never seen a Porto’s so empty
I’m genuinely curious, what’s your point

Who goes to a bakery for lunch?
