Hi, I’m not sure why this plant refuses to go dormant but I pruned about a month ago and my plant is growing new leaves!

Should I bother removing the leaves again? Will my plant be able to survive the winter if I don’t? For context, I live in NJ and the weather has been 30-40’s at night with a high of 55-65. I thought for sure it was too chilly but it’s still growing! I’m watering only once a week (about 1 inch).

I’ve dug pepper plants up and overwintered them in my greenhouse. I trimmed them back some but left most of the leaves and peppers on the plants. I would still have fresh peppers in December (zone 8b).

I no longer have the greenhouse but I’m planning to overwinter my peppers. I saw on YT to trim back like you did here, but you’re supposed to leave a joint right below where you trim. You’re still ok here, the plant will put out new shoots.

The YT video said to remove all leaves, rinse and trim the roots and repot. Place the pepper in a cool dark area, like a closet (no light). If any leaves do develop, trim them off.

I’m not going to do all that. I’m going to dig them up from the outside garden, repot them, trim 60-70% off and place in plenty of light and keep watered. I have space to do that for around 5 plants.

I may try one like I saw on YT and put it under the house.

Keep removing leaves. Needs less heat and sun. You need your plant to go dormant!
