They had a tasting room on Cannery Row, but have since closed.
Back in 2001/2002, my husband and I stopped in, tried some of their wines, and bought a few. One that we really enjoyed was their late harvest Symphony dessert wine (vintage 2000), despite not being dessert wine people at all. We drank one bottle later in our vacation in San Francisco, and brought some others home to the east coast.
All these years later, we still had one bottle of that Late Harvest Symphony hanging around. After so many years, we assumed it had gone bad, but didn’t want to toss it out, but also never had the desire to open it.
Until tonight.
Neighbors came over to celebrate my husband’s birthday, brought dessert, and I suggested this as the night we open the very old wine. And it was….
Not as bad as we expected! Not as good as we remembered, but it was drinkable.
Still had faint traces of the apricot, peach, and pear we remembered. Lost the florals. Had some port-like notes. Not terrible for a 24-year old wine! Hats off to the winemaker. 🎩
And it was fun remembering our trip to Monterey and San Francisco all those years ago when we were newly dating.
