Trying to get good at smash burgers but struggle to put enough pressure down due to joint pain. How am I doing?

A smash burger just needs enough pressure to be flat on the grill, so the entire surface makes contact, and browns/caramelizes everywhere. You’re basically preventing bubbles from forming and lifting the meat off the steel, or preventing the meat from curling. It actually takes very little force.
That said, a meat press may help if holding a spatula down is uncomfortable.

I was scrolling my feed, stopped when I saw the pic and said out loud “damn, that’s a sexy burger.” I’d say you’re doing pretty well.

Looks good. I feel your pain, have psoriatic arthritis and sometimes when I have flare ups I struggle to even get socks and shoes on.

That looks good, my main thing with cooking Smashburger is that you have to wait a lot of time until it develops that yummy crust.

Looks good. If you’re struggling to flatten them out though, the higher the fat content the easier it should smash. Try like a 75/25. When you get close to 70/30 they kind of smash into crumbles and it can’t maintain its integrity as a single burger – that’s too high. But try 75/25.

We “pre” smash with a tortilla press. Mostly because one of us is too short to get any leverage to smash.
