I’ve been looking into getting a wireless probe, are the Meater Pro/Plus or something like the ThermoPro worth the extra dollars??

I have one and it’s ok but man it’s so finicky. You move inside and you will lose connection

  2. lurkslikeamuthafucka

You should pass. I have one, and it pisses me off every time I use it.

  3. I used to love my meter plus, and it’s failed me numerous times over the past year plus.

You don’t want the meater. You want the meater plus at the bare minimum or the meater 2, It has a charging station and range extender, but like others said it fails once you go indoors.

What hasn’t failed me is my old wireless thermpro thermometer, I just need to occasionally replace the wires probes but it’s reliable for my overnight long cooks while my meater simply hasn’t been, and I loved that thing and want to sing it’s praises but can’t.

I don’t have one of these, but i have an IQchef pair.

They work well, but i lose signal when i wrap stuff. Everything that i grill comes out perfect with these.

The target audience for these aren’t experienced with grilling or smoking. They really “dumb” the process

  5. I threw out my meater+ yesterday
The range sucks and the app’s not great either

I’m currently looking for a replacement for mine. Connectivity problems constantly, it’s just not worth it. I’m gonna get something that’s not tied to my phone for functionality

I have one and regret it. It doesn’t charge anymore and it’s completely cleaned. Customer support disconnects every 5 minutes once you explain your problem to them.

I have one and like it. Just gotta keep the box next to grill, I can go inside and stuff no problem. I like it tells you time estimation and does its own rest times. I use one of these with 2 physical pitboss probes. I like the meater because it’s gives me an accurate ambient temperature.

Surprised to hear everyones reaction to this, I have one that i’ve been using for years, it’s far and away the best thermometer i’ve ever touched, more than enough range to go in the house, out front, wherever. Super accurate and easy to use. I kinda can’t believe that deal and will probably go buy my second one.

I threw mine away after a year or 2 of bs performance.

  11. SweatsuitCocktail

Honestly, meater sucks. I always have range issues, and can’t get signal half the time using my kamado Joe.

  12. Rhythm_Killer

FireBoard is brilliant. Probe to base unit is wired though so no rotisserie.

  13. sdotmill

Avalanche of people saying it but not the best probe for smoking if you plan on not leaving your phone within 15 feet of your smoker at all times. The dock needs to be within like 5 feet of the probe at all times and your phone needs to be within maybe 10-15 feet of that.

I am able to use it with little issue since my smoker is on my front porch but just an FYI.

I used to have one but I sold it. I now have a ThermoWorks Signals. I realised that it was only useful for a big piece of meat if doing other stuff I had no way to know the temp of the BBQ as I couldn’t put the probe anywhere.

I also echo others comments about how unreliable it was and I was never convinced at how accurate it was either.

  15. aChunkyChungus

Connection is really unreliable and range is shit. And the app is bloated with shit that wants you to pay for

We’re weeks away from Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Any deal you see now will have a deal at least as good around then.

  17. smegdawg

I got a Meater for free and I am happy with what I paid for it!

  18. DumbSimp1

It’s pretty God I swear by mine. Idk about the range thing lol. The charging box has to be kinda close to the prob like 20 feet or something but the phone can be pretty far from the box no problem.

  19. as others have said, no. I have the meater plus and what a waste of money. never getting any wireless probes again. I compared the meater while making a brisket with a buddy’s thermapro probe set, and the difference of temp was concerning. save yourself!

  20. Full_Mission7183

My meater plus was a fail, plus I still cannot figure why the probe has such a large diameter. The Meater is one of the most overrated things on the internet.

  21. Bro run far and fast from Meater products. Had the 4 probe block and I cussed every time I used it.

  22. bacon205

Pass from me. I bought a meater + and it’s the most frustrating meat thermometer I’ve ever used. The range is terrible. The app crashes constantly.

    Neat idea, terrible execution

  23. Elderlennial

They’re junk. Mine won’t connect to the base from under the lid of my weber kettle.

  24. Just to pile on, I have the 4 probe Meater Block, and while I haven’t run into too many issues (occasionally it will take a bunch of attempts to connect, cook time estimates can be a little fishy, battery usage is often annoying), I use it FAR less than my Fireboard 2 Drive. That thing just WORKS, and the ability to slap the blower on the bottom vent of my Kamado and just SLEEP when I want is just badass.

I don’t know your setup, but that’s where my money goes, every time. I know there are some grlll setups that come with the Fireboard already installed and I totally get it. It’s great.

I junked mine, connectivity was terrible and then stopped working after getting wet because I needed to leave the block so close to my smoker in order to have any sort of connectivity. Found the ChefIQ & it works how I expected the Meatr to work, connectivity is amazing – I can leave the hub inside and still get a perfect connection. All the same features, different looking UI – go with the ChefIQ.

  26. Oldpinepoint

I have to have my iPad close to the smoker and then I can use the app with my phone. As other said the range blows

  27. I purchased a meater block, fucking horrible buy a 50.00 wireless one from Amazon.

  28. xxdesmus

Never had a problem with my meater plus probes — going on 3 years. Range could be better, but otherwise they’ve been fine.

  29. TCKline01

I have the original Meater and I love it. The range is definitely short, but I can go out of range and it reconnects as soon as I get back in range.

  30. Responsible-Age-8199

We have had four and all broke as soon as the warranty ended

  31. DrWatson90

Range isn’t great, but I find it useful for longer cooks still

That said, get a thermapen one as well
