Got my first smoker a while back off a whim to see if I like it. At first, I hated it, but then it led to me smoking every weekend. It made some of the best bbq I ever had in that 100$ flimsy tin can. Finally upgraded to the Pecos, but I’d be lying if I said I won’t miss my first smoker. It wasn’t much, but it started me on this journey, and it’ll hold a bit of nostalgia for me.

    Congrats!
Just curious – what is the tinfoil in the fire box for?

I recently upgraded from my first smoker to the Pecos as well! I would highly recommend watching Raleigh Smoke’s YouTube channel he makes some modifications that have helped me out quite a bit. Additionally if you cut the buffer plate out I like to use a water pan below the grate to push the air up and act as a heat shield

Spray the outside of your grill/firebox with cooking spray every time it gets hot and you will create a season on it like a cast iron pan and it wont rust

My lady bought me a small electric smoker when we lived in an apartment and I kept it when I upgraded. We call it the “Little Smoker That Could” and use it as a warmer/proofer now. It holds a special place in my heart lol I can’t part ways with it

I have been running this smoker for several years, and you’re gonna want to extend your chimney and get a set of baffle plates. Waterbox is optional, but I have one and like it. It’s a solid budget stickburner but needs a bit of help.

That damn shelf is useless! Needs to be about 3″ more away from main because you can’t lift the lid without taking everything off of it first!
