I’m new to canning. I purchased the All American 930 to can tuna.

The gage connection and gage seems to have failed and I’m assuming this isn’t normal but I wanted to ask if anyone else has this issue.

Thanks for the help.

Steam is escaping your gage buy it should still read correctly to outside pressure is inside pressure though I’d replace it as it will be difficult to read think of it like a leaking car tire gage it’s letting stuff through but clearly holding enough to pressure up so long as it’s not a huge hissing leak I’d take it with a degree or two of error but you can hear leaks pretty easily most times. Though my knowledge is from higher pressure systems like compressors

Also the background in your photo shows your canner is fitted with a pressure regulating “jiggler” weight. So the gauge is essentially there just for your information. It’s the weight that’s doing the actual controlling of the pressure.

But there shouldn’t be water inside the glass unless there’s been a problem. Did you allow the gauge to soak in water when washing or in storage? It’s not a water-tight instrument, so it’s good to keep it as dry as possible. Just wipe clean with a damp cloth.

  4. You can get a replacement gauge for the AA fairly easily on Amazon or even directly from All American (not sure about shipping costs through). In the USA, there are extension services who can inspect and recalibrate canner gauges for a small fee. I rely more on the pressure regulator weight than the dial gauge but I can see why you would want to fix the dial gauge.
