My first question in this sub, please don’t judge me too harshly. I don’t know much about wine but bought this bottle because the price was quite low and I decided to give it a shot. As title suggests, I’d be grateful if you could share your opinions with me. I can see there is some residue in the wine but read it’s normal for vintage wines and nothing to worry about. Thanks for your replies.

Should be, but only one way to find out!

The only way to know is to try it! Even if it’s bad, it won’t hurt you.

I had this exact bottle about a year ago and it was fantastic. That said, it’s going to greatly depend on how it was stored. I bought it from a trusted retailer who acquired it directly from the producers cellars and it was kept in cold chain for transport.

There will 100% be sediment. You should decant it off. Check out YouTube if you need a video.

Very good vintage, and Fontanafredda was making solid wine back then. Looks maybe a liiiitle paler than I’d like but it could just be the light. I’ve had the wine in the past and it’s generally been a relatively good look into late 60’s Barolo. Not a real long window once it’s opened, but a fun drink with food.

You might be in for a very special experience.

My suggestion: open, pour, white wine glasses and most importantly: don’t judge too quickly. A few reasons: old wine sometimes might have to open up and wear off its dusty character, secondly you (probably) aren’t drinking 50YO wines on a daily basis, so you need to adjust to the completely different catalogue of aromas and flavours of old wine, too.

    Have fun!

When you say the “price was low”, where did you find it and for how much?

    This is a great wine.

  6. First impression – solid ullage for a 1967. Crack that bad boy open and hopefully you can enjoy to its fullest potential

I had a 1967 Barbaresco recently and it was gorgeous. Definitely old and a completely different experience to a more recent vintage, but there’s every chance this is still live and kicking.
