Anyone been to the resurrected Helms Bakery? They were an iconic LA bakery from 1931-1969, supposedly their bread was very good. I was born in the 90s so I wouldn't know firsthand, but I love LA history. I went on Sunday, it was really interesting to see the mix of old and new, whether the overall aesthetic of the place or in its selection of baked goods. The way their bakery works, they're just making a bunch of new stuff constantly, so you never know exactly what they'll have available.
I got this croissant hot dog thing that was really good, even the hot dog part was surprisingly flavorful. The salt roll was so soft and tasted great, the way a really good bakery smells if that makes sense lol. The corn-caramel cookie was a perfect balance of crispy and soft, and the French silk pie had such a thin, crispy crust that I really enjoyed. The only thing that was downright meh was the baguette. It was ok, I've had better. I'd like to try a different bread next time, but overall I was pleased and impressed.
