I canned cranberry juice using a water bath. I just dumped the sugar and the cranberries in the jars and poured boiling water into the jars, debubbled and put them in the boiling water bath for 10 min (I did half pints). They all sealed but there is about a quarter inch of hardened sugar on the bottom of all the jars. I tried to shake them and run them under hot water and it won’t mix in. Will this dissolve over time? I realize now I should have mixed the sugar in before putting my lids on.

This isn’t how you make cranberry juice, it’s at best an infused water or a poor attempt at [cranberries in syrup](https://nchfp.uga.edu/how/can/canning-fruits-and-fruit-products/cranberries/). Sugar syrup for fruit must always be heated to dissolve the sugar because just putting in the jars like this leads to density issues.

[Here is the official (safe, tested) recipe for cranberry juice](https://www.bernardin.ca/recipes/en/cranberry-juice.htm?Lang=EN-US) – note that it involves heating and straining.
