Bought a used Traeger Tailgater with an AC controller. Auger moves pretty quick, and the pellets overflow in the hot pot. The AC Controller was replaced by the previous owner, as was the auger motor. I just replaced the hot rod and the temp probe. Grill doesn’t come up to temperature. Just hangs around below 100, generates a ton of smoke, and then the hot rod tray over flows. The AC controller then goes out because temp doesn’t increase.

Outside of the pellets (Kirkland), in a little perplexed at what the issue could be; effectively everything in the Traeger was replaced: control board, auger motor, temp probe, hot rod, incinerator pot.

I need to slow the auger down I think… but can’t find how to do it on the AC board. I can’t imagine the Kirkland pellets are the issue?

  2. You can’t change the speed of the auger on those controllers or any of the newer ac controllers. I noticed you didn’t mention the induction fan? Sounds like you’re not getting oxygen to the fire which would cause the pellets to overflow because they’re not fully igniting.

You should see two fans under your hopper. A horizontal one attached to the motor. This does nothing, just an indicator the auger is turning. Another that’s vertical, blowing into the grill. Additionally, make sure everything is wired properly. The auger should stop and start, the induction fan should run constantly. All the wires should be color coded, but double check.

Edit: also, that’s not a Tailgater, they have straight legs.
