I’m a relative newbie to wine. When I looked at building up a cellar I saw others getting advised, if they were asking about aging wine, “do you like aged wine?”

Then I discovered winebid and the ability to buy old bottles of all sorts of things. Relatively cheaply too, if you’re not looking at top producers.

I ended up buying a variety of wines from the early 90s to mid 2000s. Nothing top end, mostly under $25.

Things started off poorly! Mainly with vinegary, all-acid low-end Bordeaux from the 90s.

I’ve been generally working older to younger. This is the first bottle that is in it’s drinking window, though probably on the decline.

Plum, black pepper, black olive on nose and palate. Ruby core to garnet with maybe a touch of browning on the rim. Medium plus body. More tertiary notes – hint of soy sauce? – on the palate. But still some really nice fruit, long finish. Probably on the back side of prime but still a very nice glass of wine.

All in all, a really fun experience for a $17 bottle.
