Visited my friend this weekend and he opened our first ever bottle of Rioja Blanco from R. Lopez de Heredia. Of course no better movie to pair good wine with than ‘ol Beerfest.
**2011 R. Lopez de Heredia Rioja Blanco Reserva Viña Tondonia **
Gorgeous color almost honey-like with a viscous appearance in the glass. On the nose, strong notes of lemon peel, some honey, and bright florality. On the palate, some fruits like mango, more lemon and lemon peel, and really bright acidity. Very long finish and it completely coats your mouth. Very luscious texture but mostly rounded out with no harsh tannins. This could go many more years but this vintage is ready to start drinking now I think.
An absolutely pleasure – I know these can be hard to find but if you have the opportunity to try some do not let it go.
