  2. Was just telling my girl I needed to plant our potatoes. Thanks Gary after watching your videos diligently last year I feel so more equipped with garden knowledge and share your videos regularly. ❤

  3. I have 15 gallon felt buckets and planted 4 potatoes in them. Got a bunch of all sizes of potatoes. Got a little more than half a 5 gallon bucket of potatoes in each bucket

  4. I was told that if you are going to add soil as the potatoes grow, the potato plants have to be an indeterminate type.

  5. We're starting our potatoes this weekend. We're going to be doing our best to replicate what you're doing!

  6. I’m in Connecticut and this year is my first for growing sweet & russet potatoes, going to grow them in grow pots, getting them started this coming weekend, thank you for your video, so helpful

  7. Thanks for showing how to grow potatoes in buckets as for many that is the only garden they may have. Have you ever added sulfur to your potatoes at planting? It is suppose to help with crop production and delayed maturity but I have not tried it and was interested in your experience. Thanks so much!

  8. I have a damn groundhog somewhere nearby and it already ATE my potato leaves that came up —— I planted in tall buckets 2 red and 2 yellow ( in each) and it ate them all —– how do I get rid of "HIM"?

  9. I'm so happy to see this video. I'm in zone 7b and by looking at a lot of these videos I thought it was too late for me to start my garden. Looks like everyone has seedlings and everything is a transplant. Glad to see there's still time to plant some things to start my first garden.

  10. I've hilled potatoes and not hilled. The thing I noticed with hilling (at about every 6 inches or so of growth) – potatoes that formed on the higher, later stem didn't have the same amount of time as those that formed earlier. In short, I maybe got a few more teeny potatoes but not anymore larger ones. Not sure I am saying that correctly but hopefully, you get my point.

  11. I planted my potatoes last week. 40 of them in a 4×8 raised bed. Yukon golds and red norland. I was able to get almost 10lb for less than $20 at tractor supplies.

  12. Talladega Co. Alabama 7B—I planted my potatoes, Red Pontiac and Russet, on March 5th. I had sprouts by March 14th, and frost. On the 19th, we had a hard freeze in our area. My potatoes shrugged it off and produced more sprouts. On the morning of the 26th, they were pounded by half inch hail stones. Not only did it not phase them, they put out a lot of new growth, and more sprouts. From the amount of sprouts and growth I've gotten, it is going to be an abundant crop. With last year's planting, the potatoes I planted in March gave the best yield. This year, I have planted four times the number that I planted last year. I am growing them in thirty gallon fabric pots, seven per pot buried six inches deep.

  13. Why do you add the water soluble fertilizer when you're adding compost and organic fertilizer already? You think the soil is that depleted to start with it wont last 2 weeks or so?

  14. Adding soil to the vine to get more potatoes only works with indeterminate varieties. The vast vast majority of potatoes are determinate so this is a waste of time and mounding soil will only help protect the tubers from the sun.determinate potato’s only grow tubers at the level they’re planted and won’t go above the seed potato so you can stagger your planting depths to increase yield.

  15. Wow, the Sun comes out there, it use to do that here in Southern California too,
that was before they were droughting, and now flooding, us out.

  16. What is this granulated organic fertilizer. Can you give me an example Gary. Thanks Bev

  17. Do you have an estimate on the potential yield from a 20 gal pot? (I've never grown potatoes before, trying to decide if it's worth it with limited garden space.)
