The Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2018 is from the Trapet Rochelandet domain.
We decided to taste what glass where the fittest one for this wine and tasted it with three different glasses : Zalto Burgundy, Riedel Performance Pinot noir and Riedel Sommelier Burgundy.
The results in the glasses are quite different. The Zalto is accurate, shows the wine as it is, revealing defaults and qualities. Mouth is seducing but rough at the end . The nose is powerful, first on mature prunes. The Riedel Sommelier enhances the wine. It’s round and sweet, fruity in mouth. Roughness is minimal. Nose is awesome. The Riedel Performance produces a more classic Burgundy with a good balance between nose and mouth, but misses to show what qualities thid wine really has to offer.
My personal rankings is:
1. Riedel Sommelier for pleasure
2. Zalto Burgundy for the accuracy
3. Riedel Performance for an overall enjoyable experience
The wine itself was very enjoyable, maybe a little expensive (40€) for what it is (I live in France, so I can find it), but at least you pay and enjoy it. That’s not always the case with wines on this price range.
