I have dined at this spot before pandemic and been here a few times the past 2 months and I can say I like their food here more than House of Three Gorges. In my opinion, the sichuan dishes has more mala ( sichuan peppercorn) flavor, a little more oily which is fine for me but they also have good specials. My favorites here are their Toothpick Lamb, Mapo Tofu ( has more mala than other places I have tried), Dan Dan Noodles and their rotating specials have been quite decent. Recently tried their whole fish special with Sichuan chili bean sauce special and though tilapia is not my first choice, they use fresh white tilapia and the fish tasted fresh. Specials are usually in Chinese. No-frill, service can be so so, food can take a while because of the way the dishes are prepared but they usually let you know ahead.

I live very close to here and have eaten in a few times. I got annoyed one time because they told me it would take an hour to make one Yangzhou fried rice. ill have to try again.

This place rules. Best fried rice in town (Yangzhou style) and it’s by a mile. The service is slow so don’t go if you’re in a rush but damn the food is so so good.

I’m so skeptical of Chinese and ‘American Chinese’ food here. It’s awful and inconsistent. Every time I think I’ve found my place, i get burnt.
I have the grossest meals I’ve ever had from semi old school Chinese restaurants in this town. Three Gorges, Chinatown(of course) , Jade, and Hunan Bistro included. Even Lin can’t seem to maintain consistency… but their use of cheese and cream is an entirely different issue(Ling Wu).
I go to Houston if I want Chinese food.
I’m drunk, and craving basic Kung pao chicken, and nobody can do it in Austin, so go easy on me.

I really like Hunan Bistro’s food when they get it right. My biggest gripe is their inconsistency. 1 in 3 times they get the flavor just right, otherwise it’s either too much or too little salt.
The other thing is their use of MSG. It’s so obvious like they are not even trying to hide. I personally don’t care about MSG but too much of it makes me drowsy. If you have to go, tell them if you want little or no MSG.
